Since 1996 Midsouth HOUSE as a local affiliate of a state wide homeschooling organization has been providing support to primarily African homeschooling families on the south side of Chicago.

We are a non-sectarian, inclusive homeschooling organization that welcomes all families in the Chicagoland area with particular emphasis on families on the south east side of Chicago (South Shore, Hyde Park, Woodlawn, Kenwood).

We are over 50 families strong and growing every year.

Our monthly meetings are the first Friday of the month, 11:00 a.m., at the Blackstone Library, 4900 South Blackstone Avenue.

Support groups, for some families, are imperative to the healthy and rigorous education of a home schooled student. Although support groups differ from one another, they all tend to provide the friendship, camaraderie and educational outlets that children and parents alike enjoy.

As homeschooling continues to grow and expand to include various types of families with varying homeschooling philosophies, so grows the number and diversity of support groups for home educators. The groups listed here are African-American specific. Some are co-ops while others are entirely web-based. Some are Christian-based while others are secular. Some embrace all homeschooling philosophies while others focus on one philosophy exclusively.

We hope that you find a support group in your area. If not, we encourage you to start one. Have a support group that you would like added to our site? Email all information to admin@naaha.com.

The DFW Blackboard group focuses on enhancing the un/homeschool experience for children of African descent by accomplishing 4 goals: by providing an environment for communicating helpful info and loving support online, by organizing cultural field trips that help create a sense of pride and self awareness (as well as an awareness of other people of color), to assist in the recognition of a "world community" through community service. activities, and to foster a sense of "extended family" through playdates/healthy-potlucks/etc. DFW BLACKBOARD is a spirit filled yet secular list/group that accepts, celebrates, and respects members of all religious faiths. The face of homeschooling is changing.  Whether you're a two-parent family trying to make it on one income, a working mom, a single parent, dealing with a child with special needs, or somewhere in-between, we all have something to share.   We all need a haven.
